The Irish is a fairly well known local joint. I was turned onto the place by one of my co-workers who has known the owners since high school. We first went here shortly after moving to Ohio a few years back and it has been a pretty regular stop ever since.
It was formerly known as The Irish Exchange. The problem is that there is another place on the other side of town that opened up with the same name….and it sucks. You don’t want people to talk crap about your place only to find out that it isn’t really your place they are talking crap about.
The place is very unassuming from the outside. You walk in to find a single dining room with nice little bar in the corner. It has your typical eclectic corner bar kind of look and feel inside. The walls are covered with various sports and Irish related memorabilia. The popcorn machine is always running and you are welcome to grab a complimentary bowl or two.
They do wing deals a few nights a week but Wednesday nights are the best because they do different flavors on that night. We just so happened to come in on a Wednesday night. I didn’t have the usual suspects with me this evening….instead, I had the misses. Now, before I get started talking about the wings I have to talk about “Tommy’s Peppers”. This is something that we ordered the first time we went here and I’m fairly certain we have ordered it every time since. You can order them made with either hot or sweet peppers. We usually choose the sweet (the wife doesn’t do hot). They take large sweet cubanell peppers, stuff them with pepperoni and cheese then batter and deep fry them. They are served with marinara on the side and they are amazing. You must try them.
For wings tonight we ordered the original, lemon garlic and “leprechaun dust”. The wings are medium in size but very crispy, just the way I like them. What I really like is that they always bring a bottle of hot wing sauce to the table with your wing order. This lets me order them regular and I can spike the hell out of mine with a nice hit of sauce. I’ve never been to another place that does this and I think it’s a really nice touch. The original are a solid basic hot wing…nothing out of the ordinary but very respectable. The lemon garlic was a bit of a disappointment. They didn’t have that much flavor…you didn’t get a good shot of lemon flavor like we were looking for. The surprise was the “leprechaun dust” wings. They are a dry rubbed wing that tastes very much to me like BBQ potato chips. We both thought that they were fantastic.

2 dozen wings, an order of peppers and a couple of sodas clocked in right around $25…a pretty good value for the two of us.
To wrap it up..the food is solid, fairly priced and the atmosphere is nice. If you want a nice local place with good local flare please go and check it out.
